All automobiles and trucks require regular maintenance to perform well and to be reliable. All the fluids in a vehicle break down over time and with use. Driving in and around Houston is considered severe driving conditions (all the stop and go and long idle periods in traffic).
Change engine oil every 3000 miles or 5000 miles if using full synthetic or BG motor oil additive.
Flushing the transmission should be done every 30,000 miles. Use BG transmission cleaner and additive for added performance and protection. Flushing the transmission is better than a normal service because it is a 100% fluid exchange.
Flush the engine coolant every 3 years or 30,000 miles. Use BG cleaner and additive for better performance and protection. Ethelyne Glycol the primary chemical in coolant never breaks down, but all the other additives in the coolant do break down. The are the ones that stop corrosion and help with heat transfer.
Flush power steering fluid every 2 years or 30,000 miles. Power steering systems have no filters. Debris from the systems wear and tear circulates around and is very abrasive. Use BG system cleaner and additives for added protection.
Front wheel drive only vehicles do not apply. Change differential fluid every 5 years or 50,000 miles. Like the power steering there is no filter to trap the metal fragments caused by wear and tear.
Most modern cars require a tune up of the engine anywhere from 90,000 miles to 120,000 miles. There are a few exceptions that are a lot less. Do not neglect this maintenance as it can become very costly. If unsure of your tune up mileage requirements contact Upland Automotive or check your owners manual.
This is another critical maintenance item. Have the fuel injection system flushed and the engine de-carboned done every 30,000 miles. Most vehicles built 2010 of after have direct injection. Failure to keep the fuel system clean can and will result in your engine to shut down.
Have these items checked and inspected every oil change and replace as needed. All of them wear at different rates depending on the type vehicle, your driving conditions, and driving habits. Most all struts and shocks need to be replaced by 80,000 miles.
